Experience with crayon mice
Author: Angela Rozema
Occupational therapist and mother
As a pediatric occupational therapist, I have been able to test a number of types of crayons. Let's start with the mice!
I did this from my expertise and experience as a pediatric occupational therapist, but also with a real test panel of 2 ladies aged 4 and 8. A small and somewhat larger hand.
Below are our experiences:
The crayon mice have a fairly large handle and a nice shape.
Total grip
For a small toddler's hand, they provoke a total grip, but with the wrist in a good starting position.
4 years
Pen grip
An older child holds the crayon more like a pen. So there is a big difference.
8 years
Properties
The crayons give off good colour, but do not transfer to the hand.
They are 6 bright colors.
At the point they have a narrow line.
Fun play ideas
The shape invites fun game ideas; the mouse walks over the paper, into a hole, etc. Fun!
