Large Dice with Insert Pockets: 10 Usage Ideas

Author: Tanja Damhof

Webshop owner and mother

There are "things" that are as versatile as your own imagination, or, nowadays, as versatile as what you can find on the internet. The dice with insert sleeves is such a "thing". In my opinion, indispensable if you have children at home or work with children.

1. Unwrapping presents at a children's party with numbers

Just last week we used it at our children's party. Five guests, so five presents to give and unwrap. By drawing only five numbers on the dice, that was solved for our nine-year-old. My comment that this could have been done with a regular dice was immediately dismissed: "no, because there's a six on it..."
Each child was given their own number and the unpacking could begin.

2. Unwrapping presents or playing a game with names

When looking through my photos, my eye is immediately drawn to the photos of last year's party. There, the kids had slipped notes with the names of the guests into the dice covers. These dice were later used again in various games.

3. In combination with the game "Head to toe" or other card games

There are many ways to play the game Top to Toe. But it is especially fun in between in combination with the dice with covers. You can choose six cards yourself that you are currently working on with the children or that you feel like playing. In a next round you can then use six other cards, so the game remains interesting for a long time.

4. Gift idea for therapists or teachers in combination with a game

This dice has also been used a few times as a gift. In combination with a game such as " mimiQ " or " Oups, jij kan het ook! " the new owner is immediately given ideas to use the dice.

But besides card games there are also enough games that have other elements besides cards. For example, we have the dice in combination with the sandbox game  "build this" played. Roll the dice and build the picture with sand that comes on top.

I have a board on Pinterest "Dobbelseen / dice / Würfel" with all kinds of suggestions and printable examples, including these movement pictures from kleuteridee.
If you let the children choose and help, it automatically becomes "their" game and there is a good chance that they will be motivated to participate.

Conversation starters or talking about feelings, these kinds of assignments can also be given an informal twist with the dice. These can also be found on my Pinterest board . talking pictures

8. Cards by Helen Purperhart

The activity cards by Helen Purperhart are very suitable for use with the dice in terms of size. This also keeps things clearer for children. Instead of a whole stack of cards, 6 are used that receive attention. Choose these yourself as a parent/therapist, but sometimes it can also work well to let the child choose the cards themselves. For example, take 8 or 10 cards in advance and then let the child choose 6 themselves.

These cards are also very suitable for playing with the dice. In contrast to most other movement cards, photos are used here, which is often clearer for children. They are also assignments that only become an assignment through the card. Children often need that too. "sit on the chair, hands in the air and turn your upper body" or even demonstrating is not as fun as seeing the assignment on a card and having rolled the dice.

The dice with cover can be ordered in four colours. This also provides additional assignment possibilities. When you start working with the dice, the ideas come naturally and you don't want to be without it :)
