Drawing with cord during the holidays

Kindertherapiepraktijk de Vlieger wrote elsewhere in this Blog how enthusiastic they are about drawing with cords. Our girls have also had a lot of fun “drawing” with this special material.

First, you lower a wire through the pin until it sticks out a little. Then you put the pin with wire in the board and pull it up a little. The wire stays in place because of the material of the board. If you pull the pin up a long way, you get a loop. If you don't want this, you pull the wire tight again at the back of the pin and push the pin into a new hole. This way you can choose whether you want a straight line, or nice big loops for example for a flower, tree or the wings of a butterfly.

Because my experiences with this material at work had made me very enthusiastic about all the possibilities, we ordered a mini version for home use on a trial basis from Toys42hands last year.

Our daughters keep taking it out of the closet and last May vacation it HAD to take it with them in their bag to the holiday home. A good choice because without a box it takes up very little space. However, the package is relatively heavy, so less recommended for on the plane or if you have to walk a long way with your luggage. Every day after swimming our daughter would crawl onto the couch in her onesie or under a duvet to continue working on her “painting” and recover a bit in the meantime. A little help from mom to neatly finish the ends and look at the beautiful result.
