Comparison tangles!

There is a huge choice of Tangles, and that is why I did a comparison study about this, based on my own experiences. I have been using the different Tangles for many years and I also like to try new types, curious about the effect.

First of all:

I want to start by making some general comments that apply to all Tangles.

  1. A Tangle is not a magic wand.

It is not the case that giving a Tangle, for example to a child, becomes a miracle cure for concentration problems or stimulus processing. Often too little explanation is given to both the environment and the child, in what way the Tangle should or can be used as a tool. The following applies: make it clear with the Who, What, When, Where and How. Also make it clear Why. Not all people with concentration problems or stimulus processing problems benefit from a Tangle, because it primarily works on the sense of touch and the visual sense. Children and adults who need deep pressure or vesibular stimuli, are (at that time) not helped by a tangle. It is therefore not a one-sided or simple solution but part of a tailor-made package.

  1. A Tangle is not a biting product.

The Tangles are absolutely not suitable as a bite and chew product, because they are made of hard plastic. This is very harmful to the teeth. The Tangles that contain rubber also contain hard pieces and are therefore not suitable for chewers.
Please note that children and adults who like to chew do not do so on the Tangles. There is also a choking hazard for young children due to small parts. (The Tangles can come apart)

  1. Everything can break.

The Tangles can also break. I often hear from people that they find it a shame that the Tangles break so quickly. But the idea and the operation of the Tangles lies in the fact that they consist of separate pieces, and yes, they can come apart and break off. There is currently no product that survives all hands, teeth and walls.
Tip: Loose parts of Tangles that have broken can always be combined with Tangle parts of (the same type) Tangle. This way you can create your own color combinations.

Tangle Broken Collage

In this blog I compare 6 different types of Tangles on the following points:

  1. What does the Tangle feel like? (Touch)
  2. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
  3. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
  4. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)

Tangle Junior ''The Classic Tangle'' tangle-junior-tangle-orange-yellow-green (3)

  1. What does the Tangle feel like? (Touch)
This Tangle provides little stimulation because it is smooth, made of hard plastic. It spins easily and can be smoothly turned into different shapes. For example, for a child with ADHD, this Tangle can quickly become boring, because it offers little challenge.
  1. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
This Tangle comes in different colours, also in a single colour. The colours that the Tangle Junior has are often calm and matching, these Tangles give less visual stimuli.
  1. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
The Tangle Junior is like all Tangles breakable, this will mainly happen when pulling the different pieces apart. This Tangle is one of the Tangles that is very smoothly connected to each other, so some force is needed to pull it apart.
  1. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)
Some of the color combinations are very beautiful, especially because of the 'transparent' pieces.
This gives an extra special effect.

Recommended for : if you are not sure whether a Tangle is the right product, this Tangle is namely the cheapest. Also nice as a gift!

Less for: children and adults who quickly get bored with toys. This Tangle gives less stimulation than the other Tangles in this blog.

Tangle Junior Structure ''Classic with a Twist'' tangle-structure-junior-red-pink-blue

  1. What does the Tangle feel like? (Touch)
This Tangle is the same as the Tangle Junior, but has pieces with extra structures. These are very diverse and therefore pleasant to let go through your hands. The fingertips are extra challenged to feel what is there!
  1. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
    See Tangle Junior.
  1. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
    See Tangle Junior.
  1. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)
The different stimuli that this Tangle gives make it extra fun to feel. It is therefore difficult to put down!

Recommended for: children and adults who pick at clothes or cuticles, as this textured Tangle stimulates the fingertips.

Less for: -

Tangle Therapy large ''The real deal'' tangle-therapy-large-think-yellow

  1. What does the Tangle feel like? (Touch)

The Tangle is sturdy and has small bumps. This Tangle is thicker and moves more stiffly than other types.

  1. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
This Tangle has recently appeared in a new set of colours. The colours are vibrant and bright.
  1. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
Very strong, but this one can also break.
  1. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)
For me this is the very best, because it gives a lot of stimulation to the hands and there is also no shortage of visual stimuli!

Recommended for: This Tangle is very suitable for adults because it is thicker and requires slightly larger movements to turn it.

Less for: the rubber-coated pieces can be stimulating to bite into. This is not the intention! For people with a need to bite, it is better to look for a special biting product.

Tangle Therapy medium ''Little brother'' tangle-therapy-medium-imagine-yellow

  1. How does the Tangle feel? (Touch)
This Tangle feels like the… but is thinner.
  1. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
The newest colors are bright and calm. The Tangle is available in different colors.
  1. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
    See….
  1. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)
This one is thinner than the… and therefore easier to store in, for example, a jacket pocket.

Recommended for: teens and young adults, as it is more stimulating than a Tangle Junior and not as big as the Therapy large.

Less for: see Therapy Large

These Tangles are usually more subdued in color than the Therapy large

Tangle Junior Metallic ''Smooth and flexible'' tangle-metallic-junior-gold

  1. What does the Tangle feel like? (Touch)
This is a very smooth Tangle! It spins much smoother and faster than all other Tangles.
  1. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
The metallic finish makes it shine strongly and therefore provides considerable visual stimuli.
  1. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
This Tangle is as strong as the Tangle Junior. The metallic paint can chip off a bit with frequent use.
  1. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)
A real eye-catcher. You can easily grab it and not put it away quickly.

Recommended for : children and adults who need visual stimulation in addition to tactile stimuli and distraction. This Tangle can be a good distraction product when the environment is too busy. The focus is then on the Tangle.

Less suitable for: in class (and in conversations), because it attracts the user's attention.

Tangle Hairy ''For pickers and pulkers'' tangle-tangle-soft-and-hairy-orange-blue

  1. What does the Tangle feel like? (Touch)
The rubber hairs tickle and challenge you to grab and pull. The material used provides a lot of stimuli.
  1. What does the Tangle look like? (View)
This Tangle comes in a small variety of colors. These colors and the hairs give a lot of visual stimuli.
  1. How strong is this Tangle? (Strength)
This Tangle is the least firm, because it challenges you to pick at it. When you want to rinse this Tangle you have to be very patient until it is dry.
  1. What is very special about this Tangle? (Cool!)
It increases alertness. In some it will evoke fascination, in others horror.

Recommended for: sensation seekers and e.g. nail pickers.

Less for: focus in class. This Tangle is very suitable as a transition object but distracts too much to look at the board, for example.
