It visually indicates how much time is left before it expires.
How long can I use the computer?
How long until the lights have to go out?
How long can I play before we leave? ...these questions are no longer necessary.
The alarm is set and when the time is up it rings. This does not come as a surprise as with the kitchen timer, because the child can see the time period getting smaller!
Mechanism like a kitchen timer, so even when it is running there is a ticking sound (a fragile model, to be used by parents/teachers).
